STRIKER Gurjit Singh says he cannot believe he has been given an opportunity by Kidderminster Harriers.

The 24-year-old has agreed non-contract terms at Aggborough and will train with the club for the remainder of the season.

He will continue to play for Tipton, who are bottom of the West Midlands League Premier Division, but Harriers manager Gary Whild is keen to look at him with next season in mind.

Singh said: “It’s crazy — I was playing in Division Two of the West Midlands League two seasons ago.

“I went into the Premier Division with Smethwick and started the season there, before moving up further in the pyramid to join Tipton in January.

“I’d been there for about a month and a half when all of a sudden this opportunity came up.

“A few teams had been coming to watch me on Saturdays; Gary Whild must have heard about me and spoke to Nick Pugh (Tipton manager).

“Looking back three or four years ago, I never thought I would get this opportunity.

“But a couple of seasons ago I really started to work on my fitness and improving and elevate my game from there.

“It’s well-known that he (Gary Whild) has found and developed players who have gone on to play in the Football League.

“My aim now is to try and earn a contract here and get into full-time football - that’s the dream.”

Harriers have unearthed gems from the lower reaches of non-league in recent season such as strikers Jamie Lolley and Jamille Matt, who moved on to Huddersfield Town and Fleetwood Town respectively.

But Kidderminster will be working on a reduced budget next season, following their well-documented financial problems.

Whild said: “He is a talented lad who could replicate what many other players have done here - the club think he has the ability to develop and improve.

“All being well, he will link up with us at the end of this season and for the next pre-season.”
