A POLOCROSSE player from Worcestershire is aiming for success on the world stage after being selected to represent the United Kingdom.

Charlotte Pykett, from North Piddle, has been named in the eight-strong squad for July’s World Cup in South Africa.

It will be the second time the 26-year-old has competed at a World Cup having been part of the UK team in England four years ago.

Pykett, who has been playing the sport for 17 years, plays for the Cotswolds Polocrosse Club and is in the process of setting up her own Highlanders Polocrosse Club in Drakes Broughton.

As part of the UK team, she will be up against hosts South Africa, who defend the title, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the USA.

The team, under the guidance of player-coach Jason Webb, are due to travel to South Africa at the end of June to spend a week working with their pool of horses.

They have also been working sports psychologist Charlie Unwin.

Pykett said: “We have got a very good chance this year. I am very excited.”
