A HOST of games and activities for all the family will be marking Wychbold Football Club’s golden anniversary on Saturday.

The club will be celebrating their half-century milestone with a fun day, including a dog show, grand raffle, table-top sale, barbecue, refreshments and a bouncy castle.

Games will include a pitch and putt, beat the goalie, guess the amount of balloons in a car as well as activities such as face painting, a nail bar and a children’s corner.

The fun day is being held from noon to 4pm at Wychbold Fields and in the village hall.

Local band Waiting for John and DJ ‘Chubbs’ will be providing musical entertainment in the evening at Wychbold Social Club from 7.30pm.

Entry is free to both the fun day and the evening event but the club will be seeking donations.

The club are going strong after 50 years and now sports four teams - an adult team and three junior teams at under 18s, under 14s and under sevens levels.

The club was formed in 1964 by local footballer Vic Brown – one of the honorary Life members of the club - along with Darren Maycroft, Nolan Talbot, Martin Caines, John Banks, Alan Brown and Martin Winwood.

Alex Riordan, manager of the adult team, said: “There are a large number of unsung heroes at the club not just now, but over the 50 years we have been in existence.

“We all hope in another 50 years, there will be an even bigger celebration to recognise the century anniversary of the club and we’ll see further growth and even more success for Wychbold Football Club during the next five decades.”

He added: “You don’t enjoy the level of success we’ve had without a good group of people making a major commitment to the team.

“We’re proud that we’ve been able to attract so many good quality players locally and perhaps flattered we have been able to attract other players from farther away, who have recognised the strengths of the team and the commitment, and wanted to be part of a well-run, enthusiastic and successful team.”
