KIDDERMINSTER Harriers’ press officer Matt Wall has allayed fears over the state of the Aggborough pitch.

Wall believes there shouldn’t be any problems with the surface for Harriers’ warm-up match tonight against Shrewsbury Town (7.45pm).

Last week, Harriers’ football secretary Robin Lamb said remedial work was carried out in the close-season but areas of the playing surface have not grown back.

City’s Worcestershire FA Senior Cup final against Redditch United on Saturday was switched from Aggborough to Bromsgrove’s Victoria Ground because of the problems.

But Wall doesn’t think there will be any issues with the pitch for the visit of League One Shrewsbury or for Worcester City’s much-anticipated friendly against Birmingham City on Friday (7.45pm).

Wall said: “There should not be any problems and we will be good to go against Shrewsbury.

“I don’t think it was anything serious because the pitch didn’t need a great deal to be done to it.

“We were cautious because we want the pitch to be in the best possible condition for the first home game of the season and we are mindful of the matches coming up.

“Worcester have got Birmingham in a friendly on Friday and that’s an important game.

“We had some dry weather on Saturday and rain on Sunday and, all in all, the pitch is looking good.”

In addition to the friendly with Shrewsbury, Harriers will be sending a youthful team for a friendly at Walsall Wood tonight (7.45pm).

Wall said football development director Colin Gordon will be taking the Harriers’ team, mostly made of under 21s, to face Wood.

Defender Tyrone Williams has secured a loan move to National League North side Hednesford Town.

The youngster continues to make progress at Aggborough and will stay with the Pitmen until January 2 next year.

Harriers’ young guns steamrollered past Evesham United 6-0 in Saturday’s Worcestershire FA Senior Cup third-place play-off.

Gurjit Singh bagged a hat-trick for Harriers, while trialist full-back Ben O’Hanlon (2) and Dan Sweeney also found the net for the visitors.

Meanwhile, Worcester, fresh from their 3-1 Worcestershire FA Senior Cup final triumph against Redditch United, travel to Rushall Olympic for a friendly tonight (7.45pm) and Hereford FC visit Brimscombe and Thrupp (7.45pm).
