STOURPORT Swifts are gearing up for a record crowd at Walshes Meadow for the visit of Hereford tonight in the Midland League Premier Division (7.45pm).

The Edgar Street club, who won 4-1 at home to Dunkirk on the opening day, have sold more than 800 tickets in advance.

Hereford's supporters will also be able to pay on the gate.

John McDonald, Swifts’ general manager, says the club will be stepping into the unknown.

Swifts’ record home gate for a competitive match is 640 for an FA Trophy replay against Chester City in 2000.

McDonald said: “It’s very much an unknown quantity for us and, with it being Hereford’s first competitive away match, their club don’t know how many fans will be coming.

We are going to be catering for between 1,200 and 1,500 and are bringing in between six and eight stewards and hiring extra toilets.”

Ben Maund hit a secondhalf double in Swifts’ 2-0 win at Rocester on Saturday.

Westfields, who started their campaign with a 2-0 win at Loughborough University, host Lye Town at Allpay Park, while Pershore Town entertain Studley in Division One and Littleton travel to Southam United.
