WORCESTER St John’s hosted their final open time trail on the course between Evesham and Alcester.

Heavy rainfall in the morning and a mixed forecast beforehand caused a number of withdrawals but almost 70 riders from across the Midlands started the 25-mile circuit.

Jon Simpkins, of drag2zero.com, took the first prize with a stunning time of 51 minutes 30 seconds, averaging almost 30mph.

Mark Corbett, of St John’s, claimed second place just 27 seconds behind after suffering congestion issues at one of the seven roundabouts featured on the course.

Saints’ members were well represented and took the team prize through Mark Corbett in 51.57, Simon Garrett in 57.24 and Martin Staines in 58.22.

Sixteen-year-old Callum Hibbert won the junior prize with a time of one hour two minutes two seconds.

Further St John’s times included Joel Turvey 58.26, Ed Dursley 58.33, Martin Lines 59.15, Kean Bendelow 59.24, Warren Little 59.56, Duncan Webb 1.0.08, Simon Adcook 1.03.21, Lewis Maiden 1.03.48 and Dave Walker 1.05.02.

n Thirteen riders took part in Malvern VC Sevale’s 5.5-mile time trial on the Hanley Swan course.

Reigning club champion Jez Pile continued his dominance, winning the event with a time of 12.8.

Fellow VC Sevale rider Mike Amery came in a close second 10 seconds later.

Mark Webb, showing some excellent late-season form, completed the top three by stopping the clock at 12.26.

G Jones clocked 12.44, W Davies 12.50, R Clews 13.08, M Collins 13.52, S Winnard 13.58, M Peakman 14.30 and L Lawler 15.16.
