LEDBURY darts ace Terry Jenkins celebrated his 52nd birthday in style by claimng his first ranking title of 2015.

Jenkins defeated Peter Wright 6-4 in the final of the PDC Players Championship 15 at Barnsley.

Jenkins was back to his best at the Barnsley Metrodome as he confidently saw off a host of high-class opponents to claim the £10,000 winners’ cheque.

He recorded 6-5 victories over both Jim Walker and Colin Lloyd, and then brushed aside Andy Smith and Daryl Gurney 6-3 to set-up a quarter-final clash against Brendan Dolan, who had earlier overcome Robert Thornton 6-3 in the last 16.

Jenkins’ fine form didn’t stop there, with the nine-time major finalist overcoming Dolan 6-1 before then seeing off Kim Huybrechts 6-4 to book his spot in a first Players Championship final of the year.

The Herefordshire ace saved his best performance for the final and, after sharing the first two legs, he pulled clear with three in a row.

Wright hit back but Jenkins was too strong in the 10th leg as he sealed victory with a 108.02 average
