FOUR Worcester anglers travelled to Canada’s Fraser river recently to tackle its mighty sturgeon and were rewarded with fantastic catches.
Dave Warren, Steve Thompson, Alf Hand and Vic Watling together landed 36 fish from 60lbs to 280lbs along with 20 salmon, the biggest sturgeon falling to Watling’s rod and measuring seven feet nine inches in length.
Meanwhile, the annual Whitehall AC contest took place on the match pool at Larford Fisheries where John Shelton’s meat-fed all-carp net of 31-10-0 took the verdict.
Gareth Cook took second spot when he put 30-8-0 onto the scales which all fell to a method-feeder approach, while Richard Oliver secured third place with a 29-8-0 net.
The previous week, Oliver won the club’s contest at Cobb House when he took an allcarp weight of 70-1-0 from Wyatts Pool on maggot bait.
Carl Graham’s level 62lbs was good enough for second, while Nigel Crane put 52-8-0 onto the scales for third prize.
