ROY Turner won Perdiswell Park Golf Club’s September medal with two birdies and five pars.

Turner (16 handicap) carded a tasty 63 nett and just managed to edge out Geoff Jones (19), who finished with the same score but lost on count-back.

Runner-up Jones also shot five pars and two birdies and was unfortunate not to take the spoils but took two shots more than Turner on the back nine.

Phil Kupfer (8) was third at the Worcester club with 67 and Peter Brown (18) scored 68 for fourth.

Due to the front nine greens being dressed ready for the winter, the competition was a non-qualifier so no handicap adjustments were awarded.

Thirty players contested the medal and were blessed with a balmy autumnal day.

Due to the annual Perdiswell mass sojourn to Devon, a smaller field than usual contested round seven of the summer league.

Just 21 took to the tees in near-perfect conditions and 28-handicapper Alan Griffiths pulled off a well-deserved win, finishing with 66 nett to earn a one-shot cut to his handicap.

Griffiths kept his head and battled hard to beat John Hine (23) by two shots.

Bill Kelly (25), Norman Vernalls (16) and Jamie Newton all posted 70.

But Kelly took third place on count-back, leaving Vernalls fourth and just edging Newton out of the placings.

With many of the regular big guns missing from the event, the result should see a bit of a reshuffle to the league placings as the keenly-fought eight-match competition nears a conclusion.
