DROITWICH Spa High School’s senior girls’ swimming relay team finished in the top six at a national finals in London.

Year 13 pupils Ruth Hadley, Sophie Groves and Sammy Gearey were joined by the younger Rebecca Hadley and Rebecca Redfern in the Secondary Schools Team Championships.

They represented the West Midlands region at London Aquatic Centre.

The venue provided a great experience and inspired the swimmers to improve upon already impressive performances that had guided them through to the final.

In the freestyle relay, Ruth Hadley, Groves, Gearey and Rebecca Hadley swam personal bests to improve their qualifying position from 25th to finish 23rd.

The swimmers further excelled themselves in the medley relay where Ruth Hadley, Groves, Gearey and Redfern entered the event as 15th fastest.

They shone to qualify for the final as eighth fastest and then finished an eye-catching sixth overall.
