WORCESTER lost their 100 per cent record with a 6-3 home loss to Sikh Union Nottingham in Warwick Printing Men’s Hockey League Midlands Division One.

The leaders dominated the opening minutes when Richard Stocks finished a solo run with a powerful shot from a narrow angle to give them the lead.

Sikh Union, building in confidence, equalised and then went ahead before half-time with a penalty flick.

Stocks levelled just 30 seconds after the restart with a reverse-stick shot from the left of the D.

Worcester struggled to play their usual fast, attacking style due to a slippery pitch.

And Sikh Union defied their lowly ranking and picked holes in Worcester’s defence, extending their lead with three more goals.

Tom Schubert converted a penalty corner but Sikh Union put the game well beyond Worcester with a sixth goal two minutes from time.

Worcester remain top, just one point ahead of Loughborough Town, ahead of Saturday’s visit to Telford and Wrekin.

The third-placed seconds romped to a 6-0 win at Shrewsbury in the West Midlands Premier Division.

Their young team coped with strong winds and kept the ball before going ahead early on through Steve Grant following a fine move.

Worcester were only one goal ahead by half-time and keeper Tom Dalton made several saves early in the second period.

But they went up the other end to win three quick short corners and Grant swooped to score his second after skipper Chris Watling’s effort was blocked.

Joe Sullivan quickly made it three for his first league goal and then Henry Jeffs freed up Ben Martin, who put the game out of the reach of the hosts.

Man- of-the-match Grant completed the scoring and his well-deserved hat-trick with the last play of the game.

Worcester thirds lost 4-2 at home to Olton and West Warwick in the West Midlands Premier Division.

Worcester fifths beat a skilful Barford Tigers fourths team 3-2 in the Central League West Midlands Premier Division after coming back from a goal down.

They moved the ball around quickly but lost their way and allowed Barford to dominate the first half, taking a 1-0 lead from a short corner.

However, the second half belonged to fourth-placed Worcester and a short corner was slammed home by Chris Wood.

Within five minutes, the hosts went ahead when Wood drove around the outside of the defence and pulled the ball back for his brother Matt to fire home.

From a short corner, the first shot was saved but the loose ball was scrambled into the net by Worcester’s Adam Taylor.

With 10 minutes left, Barford worked their way back with a solo effort but the home defence held firm to grab all three points.

Worcester fourths drew 2-2 at Sutton Coldfield fifths, while the sevenths saw off Stratford fifths 4-3 in South West Division One.

The sixths lost 2-0 at Harborne fifths.
