OMBERSLEY crashed to a disappointing seven-wicket defeat against Kidderminster at Chester Road in the Williamson Trophy.

Despite 52 from 41 balls from Liam Gwynne, 26 from Ed Baylis and 23 from former Worcestershire all-rounder Gareth Andrew, Ombersley struggled to reach 166 all out against a useful Kidderminster attack.

Gomez Vincent (3-7) and Connor Smith (3-22) were the pick of the home side’s bowlers.

Kidderminster captain Neil Pinner then led the way with an unbeaten 65 from 47 balls, while Michael Hill hit 62 from 52 balls as the hosts raced to the target in 20.2 overs.

Andrew Robertson picked up 2-30 but Andrew, who opened the bowling for Ombersley, conceded 36 runs in four wicket-less overs.

Kidderminster will host Berkswell in next Sunday’s semi-finals, while Walsall travel to Kenilworth Wardens in the other last-four tie.

Shrewsbury’s pursuit of a seventh successive Williamson Trophy title came to a dramatic end against Walsall, where injured home skipper David Powles hit the last ball of the match for six over long on to see his side to an unlikely two-wicket victory.

Earlier in the day, Worcestershire academy player Ollie Westbury (41 not out) helped Shrewsbury to a competitive total of 191-5 but Walsall recovered from 99-5 to win a thrilling contest off the final delivery.
