MALVERN Town roared to a seventh successive win with an emphatic 5-0 home victory against Gornal Athletic in the West Midlands League Premier Division.
Ben Hayes bagged a brace for Malvern who are fourth in the table and four points adrift of third-placed Haughmond with three matches remaining.
Malvern led just 1-0 at the break after Hayes slotted the ball past Ryan Sommers after a neat pass from Lewis Platt.
But it needed two superb saves from Charlie Weaver to ensure Malvern headed into the interval with a cushion.
Malvern increased their lead with a well-worked goal in the 57th minute when Hayes finished off a move involving Louis Loader, Dave Reynolds and Luke Corbett.
Gornal’s heads dropped and Malvern hit a third goal through Reynolds.
The hosts added a fourth through Corbett and Matthew Turner completed the rout.
Bewdley Town slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against Stoke Old Alleynians and Bromyard Town were thumped 6-0 at home by title-chasing AFC Bridgnorth.
Worcester Raiders recorded an impressive 6-2 win at third-placed AFC Ludlow in Division One, while Powick Rangers lost 2-1 at Red Star Alma in Division Two.
