WORCESTER St John’s Cycling Club's Phil Whitely secured third spot in the veteran 40 class at the annual Little Mountain time trial organised by Beacon.

He was among 10 riders from St John’s who took part in the race and he bettered last year’s time by eight minutes to finish in 1:46:43.

The race formed round three of the RTTC Classic Series and took place on a tough 39-mile circuit.

Simon Garret completed the course in 1:48:41 to achieve a personal best by 1m 55s.

Martin Lines shaved 6m 30s off his previous best to end on 01:52:18.

Ed Dursley displayed the most improved time by a Saint in 01:54:48 to slash nine minutes off his previous best.

Steve Clarke (01:50:29), Rob Nicholls (01:55:22) and Warren Little (01:57:12) also completed the course along with Simon Adcook (01:59:39), Duncan Carson (02:04:23) and Justin Barnett (02:12:00).

Meanwhile, Saints rider Callum Hibbert secured the fastest junior prize with 23:21 at the Warwickshire RC 10-mile open time trial.

Joel Turvey took the honours in the 30-34 age group with 22:25. Other riders included Lines (22:42), Paul Guest (23:20), Jason Tait (24:22), Dave Walker (24:22), Nicholas Bradburn (24:56) and Claire Turner (34:24).
