MALVERN St James Girls’ School student Lucy Walton qualified for the Under-21 Faldo Series grand final in September.

The Worcestershire Golf Club ace secured her place at the Wales Championships at Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club, with two rounds of gross 80, and an impressive final round of 73, against a par of 74.

This is the second time that 17-year-old Walton has qualified for this prestigious juniors tournament. The first time was in 2014 when she made the Under-16 section of the event.

On that occasion she played at The Greenbrier Golf Club, West Virginia, USA where she finished third overall.

As well as being an outstanding golfer, she is also an accomplished hockey player who competes in the England squad and has been appointed as her school’s joint-head girl for academic year 2016-17.

Headteacher Trish Woodhouse said: “Lucy is an exceptional student who excels in the classroom and on the sports field.

“However, it is not just these accomplishments that make her stand out as she also brings maturity and great leadership skills, which have led to her being appointed to head girl.”

Not to be outshone, Worcestershire Golf Club’s Diane Meakin continued her good form with a win at Fulford Heath Golf Club in the Worcestershire Lady Captains Golf Society Spring Meeting with a score of 35 Stableford points, three ahead of her nearest rivals.
