WORCESTER boxer Callum Shaw has been hailed by former stars Alan Minter and Nicky Piper after a dazzling display in Swindon.

The Worcester City Amateur Boxing Club lightweight picked up the best boxer of the evening award at an action-packed show hosted by Horseshoe.

Shaw put in a tremendous display of pressure boxing to claim a points triumph against hometown favourite George O’Reilly.

The Swindon crowd were stunned into silence as Shaw ripped hurtful punches into the back-peddling O’Reilly.

The hard-punching Shaw wasted no time in spoiling the party with his two fisted approach.

The Horseshoe boxer took the pressure well in the early stages, replying with fast punches of his own.

As the bout progressed, it was all one-way traffic with Shaw in full control.

At the final bell, the crowd showed their appreciation for both boxers with a tremendous round of applause.

Shaw received a unanimous verdict from the judges and high praise from both Minter and former World title contender Piper for his work-rate and dedication.

Two other Worcester City Amateur Boxing Club fighters also performed at the show and came away with plenty of plaudits.

Junior Aamir Manir was the first Worcester boxer in the ring and was rewarded for his efforts with an excellent victory.

Facing Swindon boxer Lewis Trinkas, Manir controlled the bout from start to finish, using long, stiff jabs to keep rack up the points.

Spurred on by the cheers of the local supporters, Trinkas tried to apply the pressure but was met with hard right hands from the Worcester ace.

Manir claimed his first victory in a Worcester vest after securing a split decision from the judges.

Junior Middleweight Jay Attwood, from Worcester, faced Horseshoe’s Joe Drury for the second time in his amateur boxing career.

The first meeting went in Drury’s favour, on points, and their second meeting was another closely-fought affair and followed a similar pattern.

The southpaw Attwood took his time to get going.

This allowed Drury to set the pace with fast, straight left-right combinations.

It wasn’t until the final minute of the contest that Attwood eventually got going and showed what he could do.

Attwood caught his opponent with solid right hooks to both body and head.

Unfortunately for the Worcester boxer, it was a bit little too late to impress the judges and he slipped to a points defeat.
