WORCESTER Rugby Club’s girls’ under-18s finished runners-up in the National Cup final after a 31-20 defeat to Pulborough.

Despite leading 15-7 at half-time, the city side could not hold on to their advantage.

However, coach Dean Ball said: “I don’t like losing but, when the girls give every ounce they can muster and don’t quite get the result, I can live with that.

“Everyone should be really proud, even if we are only the second best under-18s team in England!”

Three players were out injured and Pulborough scored their first try after 60 seconds.

Brooke Clarke joined the injury list but Flo Thompson hit back with a try before strong tackling by Zoe Warrington led to a score for Sophie Hancocks.

A fine run from Connie Bradshaw allowed Hannah Parker to run in Worcester’s third try.

But Pulborough dictated play in the second period with heavy forwards and their England under-20s international at fly-half.

Martha Farnworth scored a consolation try for Worcester.
