WORCESTER United secured a double by beating Coundon Court 1-0 in the West Midlands Women’s League Cup final.

United captain Becky Evans lifted a second trophy this season after receiving the Worcestershire FA Women’s Cup.

Their squad was hit by illness with three players ruled out.

Worcester took the lead at Yarnfield, home of Stoke, when player of the match Karli Smith headed in a corner from Lucy Sinead in the first half.

Keeper Alisha Hine made two fine saves to keep the lead intact before a Sinead volley hit the bar at the other end.

Treble-chasing Worcester sit second in Division One South, two points behind Solihull with two games in hand, but Coundon are favourites for the title.

They visit Marston Green on Sunday (2pm).

Manager Ryan O’Connor said: “It really is a fairytale story. The squad’s been hit with illness and we showed true togetherness to get a result.

“We have beaten the best teams in the region to this trophy.”
