WORCESTER’S Aimee Monks enjoyed success at the Independent Association of Prep Schools’ national swimming finals for the second year in a row.

The Royal Grammar School Worcester The Grange pupil and Worcester Swimming Club age-group champion claimed a bronze medal at the K2 Crawley, West Sussex.

Having won the under 11s butterfly sprints at the regional qualifier in Stamford, Lincolnshire, in February, Monks qualified for the national finals.

There had been 4,200 competitors from 400 schools at the initial stage.

Monks, 11, remained focused on finals day to qualify for the evening final from the afternoon heats.

She then finished third for the bronze medal, narrowly missing out on silver by 2-100ths of a second and gold by half-a-second.

David Bousfield, director of sport at her school, said: “This is a great achievement for Aimee and the Royal Grammar School.

“I know how much effort Aimee puts in to her swimming and getting this recognition is a great reward.”

Monks, who also won a national butterfly bronze last year, heads to the Midland Championships later this month.
