WORCESTER’S Liam Turberfield took his first championship victory in a NG Road Racing meet after also winning the qualifier.

The St John’s motorbike racer, 26, headed to rounds five and six in the pre-injection 700cc class at Donington Park.

Turberfield was looking forward to racing on the track he had ridden many times and started second in class for the qualifier.

On a hot day, he passed the leader into the first corner and secured the fastest lap of the race in winning.

Turberfield had to repeat the feat in the championship contest and enjoyed a fine start before guiding his bike round to triumph in tricky conditions after a thunderstorm.

The next day was not as successful as another rider caused him to crash in the qualifier, leaving him last for the championship race.

However, Turberfield recovered to finish seventh and sits second in the riders’ standings after six races, 10 points clear of third.

His next race is at Oulton Park, Cheshire, on June 11.
