PAKISTAN international Nasir Jamshed is poised to make his long-awaited Old Elizabethans debut when they face table-toppers Harborne away tomorrow (noon).

And vice-captain Liam Booth believes his arrival can be the boost OEs need to ignite a promotion push in Birmingham League Division Two.

The Worcester outfit have been forced to wait while Jamshed, who has figured in two Tests and a string of T20 internationals, sorted out his visa.

With Jamshed still in Pakistan, OEs lost their opening three games of the season, including an 83-run defeat to C & R Hawks last Saturday, and now face a Harborne side in impressive form.

But Booth is confident the 26-year-old, who is expected to start at number three, can make a huge difference.

“It has been a longer wait than we expected, but we are glad to have him finally here and hopefully he can provide that boost we need to crack on with a promotion push,” Booth said.

“We are just hoping that he will not only offer runs, but also advise and be a figurehead for us - someone to turn to and get us out of sticky situations.

“Harborne are a high quality team and have had a great start to the season, so it is a good time for Nasir to turn up as he is a big-game player.”

Opener Ashley Bullock is struggling with a leg injury, but OEs are set to provide an opportunity for 15-year-old bowler Matt Davis, who Booth described as an “incredible talent”.

“Matt has got such a bright future,” he added. “He was brilliant for us last year as he took double figures in wickets.

“He was probably feeling a bit hard done by to go down to the seconds, so he has more than deserved his call up.”

Premier Division side Ombersley’s bowling attack has been strengthened with the return of Neil Slade, Matt Rawnsley and Chris Harwood for their home clash against Shrewsbury tomorrow (noon).

But they will be without batsmen Brett D'Oliveira and Frederick Wynn, who scored 150 and 100 respectively in their side’s six-wicket loss at Walsall, and all-rounder Gareth Andrew.

Chairman Tim Oakley said: “I don’t think Brett and Gareth will play as they are in T20 action and Freddy’s playing in a university match.

“But we have got three bowlers coming in and they should make an impact, so you win some you lose some.

“We have got to find another batsman to open with Liam Gwynne, but I am sure the captain has got a plan.”

Malvern side Barnards Green beat Bridgnorth last weekend to climb to the top of Division One and they will be keen to consolidate their position when they host Moseley.

Division Three leaders Pershore can make it four wins from four with victory over Handsworth at The Bottoms.
