CROWLE Searchers celebrated their 10th anniversary with the sixth and most successful youth tournament yet.

The one-day event in the village involved 72 teams and nearly 600 footballers, including clubs from as far afield as Cheshire, Leicester, Cheltenham and West Bromwich.

It featured a friendly five-a-side festival for 24 under sevens and eight teams, while the under nines to 12s competed in six-a-side cups and shields.

More than 1,000 visitors were treated to a football shootout and bungee trampolining and £1,100 was raised for the Grace Kelly Ladybird Appeal. The appeal was set up by Crowle parents Jen and Gareth Kelly after losing their daughter Grace to an aggressive renal cancer aged just four.

It aims to help improve research and treatment of children with cancer and support Acorns Children’s Hospice.

In the under nines shield final, St John’s Colts edged past Drakes Broughton Rangers 1-0.

The cup saw Droitwich Spa Trojans beat Eckington Juniors 2-1.

AFC Andrews Foxes from Leicester reached the under 10s cup final but lost 4-0 to West Bromwich All Stars.

The shield final saw Eckington Juniors triumph 3-1 on penalties after extra-time ended all-square.

Bidford Wasps just edged out Eckington Eagles in the under 11s shield but Eckington Juniors beat Tewkesbury Town Colts 2-0 to lift the cup.

For the under 12s, Worcester Vipers, normally rugby players, lifted the shield by beating Warndon Village Colts by a single goal.

Worcester City beat Re-United on penalties in the cup final.

Searchers paid tribute to more than 50 volunteers, the St John Ambulance and a legion of referees who helped the day run smoothly.
