BENIGN conditions allowed decent scores in the Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park monthly medal.

Richard Palfrey (27 handicap) negotiated the trip best to record an excellent nett 61.

Just six pars and an otherwise well-crafted round, where Palfrey, pictured above, used his shots-in-hand well, were sufficient to win by two shots.

A series of bogies and double bogies helped keep his momentum going.

With just one triple bogey on the 15th, he finished well with two pars to post a good score in the clubhouse.

Palfrey will now be playing off a reduced handicap of 25.

Robert Brookes (10) took second place with 63 as nine pars and three birdies on the second, fifth and 18th put him in with a shout.

But a double bogie on the 15th effectively ended his chase for glory.

Brookes also had a one-shot cut to his handicap and will now be playing off nine.

Jim Staunton (19) recorded 64 to go top of the leaderboard for a while as six pars put him in with a chance.

However, two double bogies, on the eighth and 15th, proved his downfall.  Staunton also had his handicap cut by one to 18.

Barry Monk (21) took fourth place on count-back with 66 after five pars, all on the back nine, rescued an ordinary-looking round.

A triple bogey on the par-five sixth hole had already set Monk back together with three more doubles.

Monk managed 29 on the back nine, which pushed Barrie Hope, Chris Hopkins and Steve Wiggins out of the reckoning.

Twenty-one of the 54-strong field finished with nett par or better for the course.

Ravenmeadow seniors won 4-2 at home to Sherdons.
