OMBERSLEY slipped further behind in the Birmingham and District Cricket League Premier Division title race.

Wolverhampton and Berkswell beat Barnt Green and Leamington Spa respectively to open up a 20-point gap at the top of the table.

Ombersley slipped to a two-wicket defeat to Kenilworth Wardens, who strengthened their position in fourth place, four points behind the side they defeated.

Uday Kaul crawled to 55 in 106 balls in his side’s total of 188-8 before Wardens responded with 189-8 thanks to an unbeaten 122 from Basit Zaman, including 10 fours and six sixes in 112 balls.

Oliver Uffindall took 3-58 for Ombersley, who looked to be on their way to victory when Wardens crashed to 117-7, but they reckoned without Zaman.

Green’s batting order failed to come to terms with Wolverhampton's Johannes Bothma (5-58) and Usman Arif (5-66), who bowled unchanged to dismiss the visitors for 125.

The only resistance came from Warwickshire’s Josh Poysden, who hit 42 from 45 balls at number eight.

In reply, Wolverhampton stumbled to 51-5 before Wasim Jaffer (71 not out) and James Hammond (30no) came together to see the leaders to victory without further alarm.

Kidderminster continued their climb away from the lower reaches of the table with their third successive win, a seven-wicket success at Walmley.

The hosts were helped to 205-9 by Jonathan Newis (57).

Jonathan Wright (66) and Craig Wood (57) hit half-centuries as Kidderminster lifted themselves into the top half of the table.
