MARTLEY’S nine-game unbeaten run came to an end as they suffered a 114-run home defeat against Astwood Bank in Worcestershire League Division Four.

After a fine opening spell from the Johnson brothers, Astwood struggled to 27-1 from 14 overs.

Dan Johnson delivered a fine spell of 0-18 in eight overs, but the visitors reached 74-2 at the halfway stage.

George Griffiths bowled well (1-33) but a stand between Clayton (76) and Boycott (42) helped Astwood reach 224-7 off their 50 overs. Mark Johnson (2-34 in 10) and Jamie Howes (2-45 from 9) bowled well at the death.

Martley got off to a flying start, racing to 37 in the sixth over, before slumping to 50-4.

Dan Johnson blasted 18 before being bowled and Alex Basford fell for 28 as Martley were all out for 110.

Martley’s seconds slipped to a two-wicket defeat against Astwood Bank Fourths in Second XI Division Four.

Darryl Lymer was the only Martley batsman to reach double figures with 29, while extras contributed to a useful 28, as they were dismissed for 103.

John McGahan bowled a good spell, taking 3-20 in nine overs as Martley hit back.

New signing Shahanawaz Shamim ripped through the middle order, taking 3-11, but Martley’s low total was not enough.
