WORCESTERSHIRE over 60s secured their first County Championship West Midlands Group win of the season against rivals Warwickshire at Malvern.

In fine weather, skipper Martin Woodward invited the visitors to bat first on a good pitch with an initially slow outfield.

The bowlers and fielders made it difficult for runs to be scored.

An opening spell of nine overs for just 16 runs by Bob Pittaway was matched by John Raybould’s 14 from nine with each taking a wicket.

They were backed up by smart fielding and after 18 overs the score was just 31-2.

Graham Saint conceded just one bye and Rob Hawk claimed 3-18 in nine overs.

Warwickshire's 129-8 was held together by a patient 58 from 128 balls by Dave Murphy, who was caught out by Saint off Woodward.

The pressure was off the County batsmen, who were cautious on a sometimes awkward pitch against fairly accurate bowling.

Despite losing three wickets, the target was reached in 36 overs thanks to Colin Hemsley (62 not out off 105 balls) and Glyn Thomas (43no off 57 balls).
