SEVEN pars and 11 bogies put Phil Lane out of reach when he finally returned his very respectable 40 points to take the win by three clear points from Chris Luff in the monthly medal at Ravenmeadow & Perdiswell Park.

Seven pars and three birdies put Luff in with a shout but a minor mishap, a double bogey, on the third caused damage early on from which Luff would not recover sufficiently to catch the eventual winner.

Luff carded 37 points and took second place on countback ahead of 10-handicapper Roy Coombes whose nine pars and one birdie were negated somewhat by a couple of double bogies on the seventh and ninth.

Steve Kupfer finished fourth after returning 36 points which included seven pars and one birdie but a double bogey on the 16th and failure to score at all on the eleventh proved very costly for the 12 handicapper.

Sixteen players contested this Monthly Stableford and worthy of a special mention is the only lady player on the day, 28-handicapper Jane Rowland, who finished with 34 points to take fifth spot.

Monthly stableford result: 1 Phil Lane 40 points, 2 Chris Luff 37 points, 3 Roy Coombes 37 points, 4 Steve Kupfer 36 points Meanwhile, Paul Woodward pulled out all the stops to triumph as 20 players entered the seniors’ medal.

He stormed to the front when he returned an impressive nett 61 which included eight pars, finishing strongly with five of those on the way in.

With just two double bogies in his round, on the sixth and 12th, Woodward put in a steady, consistent performance and took the spoils by a clear three-shot margin.

Fifteen handicapper Lane was once again amongst the front-runners; eventually taking second place with nett 64.

Five pars and two birdies set Lane up nicely and having carded just one double bogey, on the seventh, the very competitive serial winner was once again up for the challenge and making it all look easy.

Vic Swainson, off twenty-five, came home in third place after a very decent nett 67 round; Seniors’ medal: 1 Paul Woodward nett 61, 2 Phil Lane nett 64, 3 Victor Swainson nett 67, 4 Doug Allen nett 68.
