THE WORCESTERSHIRE’S men pipped the ladies 3-2 as they went head-to-head in the annual Carr Morgan Trophy at the Malvern Wells course.
Leading the field were club captain Mark Read, playing with Marcus Holman, and ladies’ captain Jill Mico, who was paired with Jill Piner.
The men’s side took the honours in the opening match. However, a great chip-in birdie by Diane Meakin on the last hole ensured that she and Yvonne Cawley took the second match against Jim Wilde and Taff Morgan.
Paul Meakin and Mike Cawley were held to a half by Chris Urry and Jill Brierly to keep the sides all square.
In the fourth match, Roger Brierley and new member Will Jones proved too strong for Jill Exell and Vivienne Price, giving the advantage to the men with one match to go.
The last pair of Chris Price and John Duncan fought back hard to halve against Di Wilde and Helen Thomas to seal a three matches to two success for the men.
