BARBARA Ramsden won the ladies’ championship at Bransford after carding a gross score of 179 in the 36-hole challenge.

Abi Nixon also tasted success, winning the handicap trophy with a nett score of 150.

The Seniors Championship provided the tightest finish with 18-handicappers Bob McGrath and Mike Davidge carding the same scores of 181.

These were 91 and 90 for McGrath and 90 + 91 for Davidge, which proved crucial with McGrath’s better back-nine the decisive factor to win the championship for the first time. Davidge, in turn, lifted the Handicap Championship.

In the scratch competition, Ferey Ghani was third with rounds of 91 and 92 for 183, followed by Charlie Payne 96+92=188, Graham Wilks 94 +96=190 and Trevor Atkinson 94+97=191.

Behind Davidge and McGrath in the nett competition were three players on 155 - Ghani (14) 78+77, Bill Bowen (22) 77 and 78 and Paul Edlin (24) 73+82, while Graham Wilks (16) was on 158 - 78+80.

Throughout the three days of the major Bransford competitions the weather caused plenty of problems, as did the fast greens. But the course was in first-class condition. It provided a true test of spirit and ability for all the players, especially with some tricky pin placements.
