SELECTION problems continue to blight Ombersley’s season as they look to piece together a team to take on Knowle and Dorridge today (noon).

Experienced spinner Matt Rawnsley and England Under-19 batsman Josh Dell are both set to miss the Birmingham League Premier Division clash.

Sixth-placed Ombersley, who lost by four wickets to rivals Kidderminster last Saturday, have had a very poor run of form.

Ombersley are without a victory in the league since June 11.

And chairman Tim Oakley says their inability to field a full strength side was having a “disruptive effect” on their form.

“We are suffering from the problem of consistency in selection and we have got the same issue this weekend,” he said.

“Both Matt and Josh are unavailable, so we’ll have to bring lads in from the second team.

“The guys who come in from the second team do a decent job, but they are not as good as the guys they are replacing and that has an effect.

“We have had a poor run of results in the last three or four weeks.

“I don’t think they are suffering with a lack of confidence, but the best teams are the ones that are settled.

“We aren’t, so it has a disruptive effect.”

Oakley said he saw some promising signs against Kidderminster as they got off an impressive start to get to 112-1 before their innings faltered, finishing on 193-7.

But Oakley admitted Ombersley would be up against it at in-form Knowle and Dorridge who have won their last four games.

“There is no bad opponent in this league, but Knowle and Dorridge are a good, competitive outfit, so we will have our hands full, there’s no doubt about that.”

Elsewhere in the Birmingham League, Worcester club Old Elizabethans go up against Wombourne at the Memorial Ground (noon).

The hosts are fourth in Division Two and will be keen to back up their superb six wicket win over Stratford-upon-Avon last weekend.

In Division One, Barnards Green host Himley, while Division Three promotion-chasers Pershore face Lichfield at the Bottoms.
