GB WOMEN’S Wheelchair Basketball Team are taking on the world in Worcester ahead of Rio 2016 Games.

As the world counts down to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, the GB Women’s team will take on four of the sport’s leading nations at the University of Worcester Arena from August 1 to 4 – less than 40 days before they take centre stage in Brazil.

Descending upon the University of Worcester Arena for the Continental Clash 2016, the 2015 European bronze medallists will do battle against London 2012 gold medallists Germany, 2014 world champions Canada, Netherlands, and France.

With preparations for the Games now entering their final stage, the event will see the Great Britain team compete on home soil for the last time ahead of the 2016 Paralympics.

The Continental Clash 2016 will feature 12 showcase games of fast-paced world-class sport and entertainment for the whole family.

An engagement programme will work alongside the Continental Clash to turn inspiration into participation.

It will aim to build upon the impact of the 2015 European Wheelchair Basketball Championships, which led to 311 new people in the West Midlands now regularly participating in the sport.

GB Women’s head coach Miles Thompson said: “The Continental Clash now forms a staple part of our yearly calendar, providing us with the invaluable opportunity to compete against some of the world’s best teams at our home base, the University of Worcester.

“The support we continue to have from the local community is fantastic and we look forward to everyone joining us again at this great event.”

GB Women’s co-captain Helen Freeman said: “The support we had at the European Championships last year was great and playing in front of a home crowd like that would be fantastic.”
