WORCESTER Rugby Club girls’ under-18s side triumphed in the Jurmala Sevens Cup, scoring 211 points in four games while only conceding seven.

A squad of 15 travelled with coaches, managers and parents to Latvia for a training camp with the Jurmala girls before the tournament began.

Worcester beat Latvian side Riga 45-0 in the round-robin stage opener before defeating Kaliningrad of Russia 60-0 and the hosts 49-7 to progress to the final.

The tourists met Riga again and handed out an even more emphatic 57-0 defeat.

The ties of friendship the tournament established were rated as the best aspect of the trip with Worcester players helping out all the other teams.

It was hosted by Kristian Avotins, of Jurmala, alongside the Latvian Rugby Federation, who made a variety of excursions and cultural events possible.

The girls thanked their sponsors and they also raised £1,500 towards the cost of the trip themselves through fundraising.
