MICK Boylan won the George Knight Trophy at Worcester’s Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park.

He demonstrated what an important part consistency plays in multi-leg competitions as a 62 nett in round one was followed by a 63 two weeks later for an ultimately untouchable total of 125.

Richard Ryder came second after a stunning 59 was hit by a second round of 70 to give him 129.

Joe Jackson’s 68 and 63 secured third overall with 131.

Graham Colley, whose handicap of 20 was reduced by two, won the second round with 62 after carding four pars and two birdies on the ninth and 17th.

Tied on 63 and taking second, third and fourth place respectively on count-back were Jackson, Steve Wiggin and Boylan.

Jackson (19 handicap) took second place after carding 28 on the back nine, Wiggin (14) 29 and Boylan (17) 32 but the latter had the last laugh.

An unusually low turnout saw 29 players enter the President’s Trophy and two Hines finished in the top two.

Grandfather John Hine returned 61 nett and earned a two-shot handicap cut to 19 after carding 10 pars.

His grandson Leighton Hine was one behind on 62 and his handicap went down to 14.

Mark Keeling (13) also shot 62 but lost the place on count-back with a back nine of 31.  Clive Brown came in fourth with 64 and will now play off 20.

Ravenmeadow seniors won 4-2 at Kingfisher in Redditch.

There were victories for Jan Schutte and Doug Allen 4&3, Charles Colthart and Jerry Newbury 4&3, Tony Nash and Jim Dover 2&1 and Mike Ransom and Martin Hucker one-up.

Bob Gibson and Terry Palmer lost one-down and Fred Hackett and Dave Johnson 6&5.

Perdiswell Park seniors lost 5½–½ at Dudley.

There were defeats for Phil Lane and Peter Brown 4&3, Ron Law and Norman Vernalls 5&4, Ed Nicklin and George Postans 4&3, John Hine and Malcolm Stanley 6&5 and Mick Huggins and Steve Duggan 4&3.

Roger Jones and Brian Hodgetts halved after being ahead for most of the match.
