HUSBAND and wife Ian and Anne Hamilton were right to the fore when Bransford seniors competed for the Cyril Lee Trophy.

Ian (11 handicap) finished in first place, having amassed 43 points in the 18-hole Stableford, while Anne (19) gained 41 to claim the runner-up spot.

Just behind was Phil Spencer (23) and Eve Lynes (29) with 40, Alan Wallcroft (23) and Adrian Wood (25) on 39, John Phillips (22) and Graham Wilks (16) on 38 and Bill Bowen (22) on 37.

Wallcroft was in fine form in the Stableford summer league fifth round to win Division Two with 45 points.

Division One was won by Harry Godwin (18) with 39 and Division Three went the way of Allen Rowberry (26) with 38, who pipped Mike Kemp (28) on count-back.

Richard Steele (13) scored 37, Tony Lee (16) 36 and Barry Benge (18) 35.

In Division Two, Brian Lawrence (21) managed 40, Roy Williams (20) 38, John Phillips (22) and Dave Lumsden (22) 37 and Lee Dement (20) and Rob Wetton (23) 35.

Chris Hall (26) tallied 37 and Dick Bettsworth (27), Adrian Wood (25), Paul Edlin (24) and Cynthia Holmes (32) 35 in Division Three.

Bransford beat Wharton Park in two senior club matches, winning 5-2 away and 5-1 at home.

At Park, Alan Wallcroft (23) and John Phillips (22) won one-up, Ian Hamilton (12) and Dave Harvey (27) 3&2, Roy Burston (12) and Gerry Rebbeck (15) 3&2, Trevor Atkinson (13) and Paul Edlin (24) 4&3 and Mike Davidge (17) and Peter Harrison (24) 4&3.

Rob Blake (15) and Phil Spencer (24) lost 3&1 and Roy Williams (20) and Roger Clark (22) 3&2.

The home match saw Wallcroft and Phillips win 3&2, Williams and Dave Miller (18) 7&6, Atkinson and Harvey 2&1 and Edlin and Clark 5&3.

Blake and Harry Godwin (18) and Hamilton and Spencer halved.

The main club staged their Stewards Cup, with Steve Mrvic’s team winning from Stuart Wood’s 45-44.

Two points further in arrears were Dave Lewis’ and Carl Wiltshire’s teams on 43.

Jenny Bennett (90 gross 19 handicap 71 nett) won the ladies’ August medal by seven shots.

Her nearest challenger was Abi Nixon (110-32=78) followed by Barbara Ramsden (92-13=79).
