VETERAN Worcestershire team Fossils held on for a draw against Barnards Green seconds.

They fought hard and dug deep into their experience to score 98-9 in reply to 201-5.

Batting first, a young Green side amassed plenty of runs from 26 overs before the declaration came.

Sid Hunt hit 88 not out, including 10 fours, after Ray Wilson (23) and Charlie Marsh (29) had 54 on board from seven overs.

All Green’s batsmen got into double figures and it was hard work for the Fossils.

The reply got off to a bad start when John Riley was bowled first ball.

Keith Middleton (19) and Glyn Thomas (17) then got stuck in and added 34 quick runs before the latter departed.

Dormston Cook top-scored with 25 but was undone with one that kept low to take his middle stump.

Wickets then tumbled until Martin Woodward (6 not out) was joined by John Reynolds (0no).

The duo stood firm as Green threw everything at them and batted out the last six overs to earn a draw.

Fossils tied with JB’s XI after both teams scored 165 in one of the games of the season so far.

Two runs were needed from the last ball but the batsmen could only run one.

The game raised £100 for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Batting first, Fossils made 165 from 30 overs.

Riley top-scored with 33 but Dave Bayliss, Dave Sample and Simon Hudson all scored 30 before retiring.

John Lawrence and Martin Emson both got 14 in a stand of 29 to push the score along to 165.

Peter Tudge and Thomas were the pick of the bowlers.

JB’s XI did not waste any time in reply as Thomas and Woodward put on 68 in 14 overs before the latter went for 23.

Bill Wood (34) enjoyed a good partnership with Reynolds (19), while Martin Mudway smashed 30 before he retired.

Four wickets fell for 20 runs as the overs fell away but the side batting second could claim two extra overs if a win was possible.

JB’s XI took that option, needing 11 to win from 12 balls.

Thomas and Wood came back in, requiring six from five balls, but the game ended all-square.
