WORCESTER beat Borough of Croydon by 27 shots 110-83 in the visitors’ final game of their Worcestershire bowls tour.

Taking an early lead, Worcester picked up three fours by tea to increase the margin to 15.

Continuing to score heavily with a six, five, two fours and several threes, the hosts led by 39 with one end remaining.

But the tourists won all five triples, picking up 12 shots to reduce the arrears.

Taking the honours for Worcester was the triple led by Arthur Jackson, who had a comfortable 16-shot victory.

After a tight first 10 ends, Vernon Evans’ trio collected 14 shots over the remaining ends to win by 12.

Completing Worcester’s success were John Weston (5) and Mick Bullock (3).

At Gilt Edge in their penultimate game of the season, Worcester suffered a 12-shot defeat 89-77 although both sides claimed two winning rinks and one tied.

Taking the honours for Worcester was Ian Hunt’s trio, who won by four after trailing by 14 after six ends.

After a close game, Andy Cook’s triple snatched a two-shot victory.

Although picking up two fours, Bullock’s triples finished all-square.
