WORCESTER men’s firsts slipped to fourth from bottom in the Warwick Printing Midlands Men’s Hockey League Premier Division.

They suffered an 11-1 thrashing at home to runaway leaders Nottingham University with top scorer Tom Schubert scoring the only goal.

Worcester thirds returned to winning ways with a 3-0 home win over Bournville.

But their nerves showed in the first half with them dominating possession but again failing to convert their chances.

Perseverance prevailed and in the second period they made their dominance count.

A superb move down the left found Andy Hackman, who was able to spin the keeper and open the scoring.

An almost identical move a few minutes later saw Brett Pittam create space to slot home at the back post.

Ollie Betteridge and Kieran Shipley dominated the flanks for Worcester.

More pass-and-move hockey ended with Betteridge’s shot being saved on the line by an opposition foot, allowing Jake Glass to step up and convert to complete the scoring.

The fifths lost 2-0 at home to Harborne fourths in the Central League West Midlands Premier Division.

But Worcester had a good day in South West Division One with the sixths winning 1-0 at Bournville fourths and the sevenths beating their Edgbaston counterparts 2-0.

The eighths lost 5-0 at Bromsgrove fifths in South West Division Two.

Despite playing well recently, they struggled to gel or communicate and the defence gave the hosts too much space but were also often left exposed by the midfield.

The forwards did not look like scoring or getting past Bromsgrove’s more disciplined defence.
