AROUND 300 members of Worcester Hockey Club junior section enjoyed a three-hour training session with Rio 2016 Olympic gold medallist Shona McCallin.

Youngsters were inspired to learn of her experiences of playing hockey since the age of six, starting at Newark in Nottinghamshire, and ultimately winning gold in Rio.

As well as overseeing the coaching and joining in training games, she signed sticks, shirts, balls and even goalkeeper helmets before answering a wide variety of questions from the future stars of the club.

While they were amazed to hear McCallin now trains eight times each week, they were also keen to go home and try her preferred pre-match meal of peanut butter and bananas on toast.
