WORCESTER Wanderers beat basement boys Kenilworth 34-17 in Midlands One West at Weston’s Fields.

Fourth-from-bottom Wanderers moved 10 points away from the bottom with Sutton Coldfield and Crewe and Nantwich also below them.

They are two points behind both Whitchurch in ninth position and Moseley Oak just above them. Hereford slipped down to eighth spot after losing 28-27 at home to Moseley Oak.

Wanderers visit fourth-placed Wolverhampton on Saturday (2.15pm).

Malvern won 38-31 at higher-placed Earlsdon in Midlands Two West (South). Fly-half Adam Dixon provided the perfect start with two early tries and the conversions.

The Coventry hosts drove over twice to make it 14-10 before half-time but missed the extras both times.

Earlsdon went ahead for the first time with their forwards again influential but Malvern replied in style.

Full-back Luke Milton scored following a fine run from prop Craig Freeman and Dixon converted again.

He added another two points to improve another effort from Milton, who was assisted by Ieuan Mustow’s run and superb offload.

Tom Hale sprinted through for another converted effort and Dixon added a penalty. A yellow card for Sam Parsons helped Earlsdon score two late tries to get within seven points.
