MANAGER Paul Collicutt has challenged his players to create history for Evesham United as they pursue a 12th straight league win at Taunton Town tomorrow (3pm).

After a stunning run in Southern League Division One South and West, Collicutt’s men can break a club record which has stood for almost 50 years.

In the 1967-68 season, the Robins won the first 11 games on their way to being Worcestershire Combination champions.

That long-standing record was equalled last weekend with a 3-2 victory over Salisbury and Collicutt wants to go one better.

“We’ve just got to keep it going,” said Collicutt, whose side had a 10-match winning streak in the 2014-15 campaign.

“We’ve equalled the record, so we need to win tomorrow to beat it.”

Evesham, who have not dropped league points since drawing 0-0 with AFC Totton on September 10, are in second place and on the crest of a wave.

Collicutt hoped to have the record tied up before their trip to Taunton having been scheduled to face Didcot Town in midweek.

But the match was called off just an hour-and-a-half before kick-off due to a frozen pitch.

The Robins boss admitted the postponement allowed his troops to rest before a “very difficult” clash at 14th-placed Taunton.

“They had a very good run in the FA Cup and the Trophy, so they are playing catch-up,” said Collicutt, who is without midfielder Lorcan Sheehan and defender Lewis Binns due to bans.

“But they can finish in the play-offs. They got there last season and will be there or thereabouts again as they have five or six games in hand on some. They are in a false position.”
