GREENMAN ace Richard Brewer topped a good turnout for the midweek Pitchcroft match with a solitary barbel from a peg on the bend.

Competitors found the river difficult which suited the feeder anglers better than the float men as they took the first three places.

Offering double red maggot three quarters across on peg nine, Brewer’s first bite came on the hour and he eventually landed the 9lb 12oz 0dr specimen.

Despite also losing a skimmer at the net towards the end, it was enough to give him the final verdict.

Runner-up was previous week’s winner Bob McAulay after a relatively fruitless first half of the match on the float.

He reluctantly changed to the feeder to take most of his mainly roach net of 7-4 from the end peg 12.

Third was John Moloney on peg one with one feeder-caught barbel and a roach weighing 5-10.

The best float catch of the day was by Tony Hamilton with 5-8 of roach coming to the topper from peg 11 in the deeps.

New Browning West Midlands signing Chris Turner marked his addition by winning the Droitwich canal open near the sports centre.

He put an all-perch catch together taken on worm and weighing 5-14.

Second was Tim Biddle with a bread punch-caught roach net of 4-8 to beat Maver Midlands canal ace Kevin Perry’s 3-10.

The Droitwich Spa AC contest on the canal at Porters Mill saw Kevin Downton take a frost-affected all-perch weight of 2-10-3 from peg 21.

Joint second came Dave Anderson and Paul Wilson with 2-5-7, while section winners were Reg Bastable and Pete Hatton.

Chris Senter (Shakespeare) won the WDUAA Bank Holiday Monday canal contest with 17-4 of chub and perch on worm and caster from peg 27 below the viaduct.

Way back in second came Jamie Smith with 3-7-4 from peg seven in the Arboretum.

In third was Nick Vaughan who put 3-4 of small perch onto the scales.
