WORCESTER men’s firsts were gifted another week in the winter break as their Midland League Premier Division fixture at North Staffs was postponed due to poor weather.

They return on Saturday when title-chasing Khalsa visit the University of Worcester (noon).

Making up for the lack of first-team action, the seconds outclassed North Staffs 14-2.

Joe Hughes, Rory Simons, Henry Jeffs (2), Ben Martin (2), Rob Goodman (3) and Matt Hooper (5) claimed the goals in the one-sided West Midlands Premier match-up.

Worcester started well but it was fairly even early on with chances at both ends.

However, the city side then bagged three goals in seven minutes.

Hooper smacked home a short corner, Martin linked up with Joe Sullivan and young Simons slotted the ball through the keeper’s legs after a flowing passing move.

The pressure mounted and Worcester were clinical in front of goal.

Martin got his second and Goodman netted his first. With half-time approaching, Hooper notched his second with a fine piece of skill.

The second half followed the same trend with Hooper and Sullivan running the midfield.

Hooper soon netted to claim his hat-trick from a well-struck short corner and Goodman scored his third from a similar situation.

North Staffs rallied with several goals but second-placed Worcester raised their tempo and Hooper scored a quick brace with Hughes and Jeffs also on target.

Jack Ferman and Brett Pittam fired in hat-tricks in the thirds’ 6-3 away victory over Shrewsbury Town to place them seventh in Midlands One.

The fourths could not be stopped either after goals from Kieran Shipley, Luke Pillinger and Matthew Sharratt saw a 3-2 victory after Olton came back to 2-2.

The West Midlands Premier saw more action from the men’s fifth team who twice came from behind to pick up a 3-2 victory against Bridgnorth fourths with their goals coming from Ross Leighton, John Senior and Dan Rickman.

The sixth team travelled to a strong Stourport fifths side and could not continue the Worcester winning ways as they fell to a 2-0 loss in South West One.

Goals from Jacob Moseley and Tom Howard saw Worcester prosper with a 2-0 home win over Olton and West Warwick’s fifth team to leave the seventh team sixth in South West One.

A good round of fixtures was rounded off with a 3-0 walkover victory for the eighth team as Khalsa failed to field a team so the club gained an easy three points in South West Two.

Worcester women’s first team are yet to return to league action as they continue to build up to full match fitness.

The seconds return to league action on Saturday facing a tough away fixture against Stourport thirds.

With both the thirds and fourth teams not having a game, a friendly was played out between the sides.

The thirds triumphed 2-1 after a brace from Lucy Merrett and a solitary goal for Lily Marsh.
