WORCESTER United made it three West Midlands Women’s Football League Division One South wins in a row with a deserved 1-0 success over Coventry Development.

Without top scorer Lucy Sinead a tight first half in cold, wet conditions on a difficult playing surface restricted United’s short passing game.

But they controlled the second period with captain Becky Evans driving her team forward and unlucky not to net with a half-volley.

Player-of-the-match April Seers caused Coventry problems and, assisted by Annie Highway, ran past three defenders before hitting a powerful shot that the keeper could only palm into her own net.

Mary Calder battled hard in midfield supported by Paige Mcinerney and Michelle Davis.

United are one point behind leaders Redditch United with two games in hand.

Manager Ryan O’Connor said: “The ladies did really well. Coventry are a very good side with a lot of experience in this league.

“We controlled the second half after April gave us a deserved lead. Every week is a cup final for us at the moment and we have some very tough games coming up but are building confidence and finding momentum.”

Worcester have no game on Sunday but Droitwich Spa return to action when Coventry visit (2pm).
