WORCESTER Reds have another tough England Netball Mizuno Premier League One game ahead after losing 62-35 at home to Tameside.

They welcome Academy, who are joint third with Tameside, to the University of Worcester St John’s campus on Sunday (10.30am).

Their latest match put them up against some of the league’s strongest players and the visitors took control.

Tameside did not give Reds an inch and turned their centres to extend the lead further as they maintained a fast pace and solid passing.

But the third-from-bottom hosts claimed a losing point and are four ahead of Leeds Athletic at the foot of the table.

Worcester Whites won 50-32 at rock-bottom Sutton Town in a must-win West Midlands League Division One game.

They started with a different line-up and the unfamiliarity in attack slowed them down at first.

But they played patiently as forwards Alice Crump and Cathy Bedney did well against a tall defence to build a 10-7 first-quarter lead.

Rae Hill came on to add more height with Bev Willett and Ellie Moore supplying the shooters backed up by relentless defending from Lucy Chapman, Sarah Holden and Ellie Trow.

Whites built a 15-goal lead before Jess Cartwright, Amy Dowler and Hannah Brewer slotted in well at half-time.

With Worcester in control they tried to push on but could not score enough to deny Sutton a losing point.

Chapman and Willett were joint players of the match.

Worcester City under 16s beat Fenton Manor 45-27.

They started well, putting much-rehearsed attacks into practice with shooters Freya Lines and Crump scoring 12 out of 15 shots.

Worcester’s defence restricted Fenton to five goals and the city kept up their momentum to double the score in the second quarter.

Daisy Martin and Lizzie Mcgecchie defended strongly before Abbie Phillpotts brought an extra defensive element to the centre court.

Worcester put 26 shots up in the third quarter but Fenton’s height ensured only half were scored.

The girls led 37-16 going into the last quarter but could not prevent their opponents sneaking a losing point.

Crump and Lines were joint players of the match.
