TALENTED Evesham golfer Oliver Farrell has been impressing over in the USA.

The second-year student, 20, posted a seven-under-par day that included a career-low 66 of six-under in the final round to claim medallist honours and lead Marquette University, Michigan, to a four-stroke victory over Wisconsin.

They were playing in the Charleston Shootout at Kiawah Island’s Osprey Point Golf Course.

In the three-team, one-day, 36-hole event that also included hosts Charleston Southern University, Marquette shot a one-under-par final round on the par-72 course.

The win for former Pershore High School pupil Farrell, who scored 71+66=137, was by six strokes over Wisconsin’s Nick Robinson on 143.

He entered the weekend averaging 71.8 strokes per round this season. Farrell is still a member at Evesham who he joined when aged seven and first won the men’s club championship at 12.

Meanwhile, Evesham ladies’ spirits enjoyed their waltz competition despite a cold, dull day.

Verity Lawrance, Margaret Roberts and Frances Wilkinson won with 47 ahead of Angela Budden, Alison Scott and Penny Osborne with 46 On a spring-like day 27 ladies played an individual friendly stableford over 12 holes.

Lesley Curnock won with 26 points ahead of Osborne with 25 on countback from Ruth Masters.

Thirty-five The Vale ladies assembled in teams to play a nine-hole yellow-ball competition at the Bishampton club.

Deb Smith, Carole Lavis and Jean Hilton won with 54 points followed by Shona Rollins, Wendy Towers and Clare Bunn on 51.
