WORCESTER Rugby Club girls’ under 15s booked a northern area cup final with Leek after winning 38-12 against a combined Manchester and Ellesmere Port team.

Their semi-final success at Manchester RFC, Cheadle Hulme, continued the team’s stunning transformation after struggling to win a game just one year ago.

Plenty of hard work, enthusiasm and practice this season has helped them become one of the strongest sides in the region.

The final will be on March 5 at the neutral venue of Lichfield.

The opening 10 minutes of the semi-final were fairly cagey and even until Worcester scrum-half Charlie Manns spotted a gap for her first try of the game.

Dijana Clarke fielded the restart and ran in Worcester’s second converted by Manns.

Clarke scored two more converted tries to complete her hat-trick and Manchester replied to make it 26-12 to the visitors at the break.

In the second half both defences became more committed, including a try-saving tackle from Tia Darby on the Worcester line.

Then a defensive kick upfield by a Manchester defence under pressure was caught by full-back Clarke who combined with Jemima Moss for Manns to run in her second try.

Winning their own scrum, Worcester executed a training-ground switch followed by a blistering run from Caitlin Parker who was unlucky not to score.

The final try of the game came from an interception from Manns who ran two-thirds of the field before converting her own try.
