UNIVERSITY of Worcester women's first-team hockey players have won BUCS Midlands 2A League.

They finished the season with an 8-1 home victory over Loughborough fifths in a game they had to draw or win to secure promotion.

Worcester started strongly with two goals in the first half playing into the sun with Loughborough coming back to score one just before the break.

In the second period Worcester came out of the blocks in fine fashion and scored another six times.

Rachel Howells (5), Lottie Wade, Mattea Pauc and Naomi Cornell were on target.

Last season Worcester just got pipped to the post by Warwick but they have fought well this time around.

Coach Tom Howard said: “They are a great team and we had to win eventually.”

Hannah Redwood, Helen Bailey, Tasha Walker, Alice Hilton, Lucy Tolladay, Katie Mackeith, Lyndsey Beynon, Daisy Perry-Mitchell, Saska Ingham, Ailsa Richardson, Ellie Summers, Orla Brown and Jenny Ross also made up the squad.
