THE last couple of years have seen a huge growth in girls' cricket nationally but also at Dumbleton.

Not to be left out a group of Dumbleton mums decided to pad up and get involved.

They all have daughters or sons who play cricket and rather than watch from the boundary decided they would try it for themselves.

They have enjoyed weekly sessions provided by Lisa Pagett and Pete Lamb from Gloucestershire Cricket Board which culminates in their inaugural match on April 9.

Lynsey Jones, mother of Hannah, 15, and Katie, 11, who both play cricket, said: “It’s been great fun learning new skills, getting active and appreciating the sport my daughters love."

The fledgling team will then be joined by other women and older girls to enter their first league this summer.

Guy Stirling-Lee, girls' and women's manager at Dumbleton, said: “2017 is a huge year for women’s cricket with England hosting the Women’s ICC and Dumbleton fielding their first ever women’s team.

"We have a number of older girls who play cricket, four of them at county standard, so we are keen to establish a ladies' team so they can carry on playing well into the future."

New players are always welcome and anyone interested in playing cricket is asked to email guystirlinglee@gmail.com.
