WORCESTER'S Perdiswell Leisure Centre will host training sessions introducing triathlon to women and the over 50s from Tuesday.

The Bilford Road centre's operator Freedom Leisure have teamed up with British Triathlon to help beginners take their first steps.

The over 50s sessions for men and women are from 7pm until 8pm every Tuesday. The women’s-only training will be from 8pm until 9pm.

The seven-week course until June 6 costs £20.

The centre then hosts a mini-beginner GO TRI triathlon on June 10 with an eight-length swim, cycle on the spin bikes and 2.5-kilometre run.

Vanessa Bale, Freedom Leisure aquatics development officer, said: “Triathlon is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country and we are delighted to be able to help British Triathlon show people just how accessible it can be, even for a total beginner.

"Our sessions will introduce people to each of the sports, whatever their ability, in a friendly, fun and safe environment.”

Helen Barklam from British Triathlon said: “These sessions are designed for those who have always fancied having a go at triathlon or one of the three sports but never taken the plunge.

“Mixing different activities like swimming, running and cycling is a great way to get in shape as the different sports challenge different parts of your body.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to try the different sports with our qualified and experienced coaches and instructors.”
