WORCESTER'S Old Vigornians were left to rue failing to bat their overs and the vagaries of the rain regulations.

Visitors Enville took the lion’s share of the Worcestershire Cricket League Division Two points despite having to cling on to avoid defeat.

After heavy rain reduced the match to a total of 70 overs OVs, who had been put into bat, did well to muster 182 in bowler-friendly conditions.

The innings was built around Osman Fiaz’s 31 at the start and Charlie Lamb’s 48 at the end.

After struggling to 110-7 Lamb marshalled the tail and added invaluable runs.

But he was last out in the 46th over, giving the Staffordshire side an extra two to the 20 they were expecting to bat.

It also meant after rain regulations were consulted they only needed to score 77 to secure the winning draw.

They just about made it despite the best efforts of Lamb (2-21), Alex Parker (3-17) and Azmat Riaz (2-24).

Enville were on 80-8 at the close and secured 12 bonus points with the draw and OVs, despite being in the winning position, only seven.

Hosts Kempsey beat OVs seconds by two wickets in the penultimate over in a thrilling finale to a close Division Three match.

After a brief rain delay which led to the match being reduced to 43 overs per side there were no further interruptions as the showers scudded past the Worcestershire village.

The first key moment came when the hosts won the toss and put OVs into bat.

Conditions improved but were tricky to begin with.

Tony Meek (37) and his son George Hayward-Meek (19) battled through the first 20 overs.

Tim Waites (39*) saw the city side through to a respectable 158-5 from 43 overs.

They were helped by the 42 extras Kempsey conceded.

After Anthony Fahy (4-26) made the early breakthroughs the second key moment came when Mohammed Farooq was dropped off the unlucky Ivan Campbell-Ferguson early in his innings.

The man of the match went on to add 70 runs to his earlier figures of 3-53.

Although Tim Race also picked up four wickets for OVs they were 25 runs short and Kempsey edged home to secure the victory.
